Nanaimo Street

7 Oct

On my sixth day in Vancouver I had some time to myself while my friend was in classes.  It was one of the clearest days while I was in Vancouver.  So i decided to go for a walk to try and get a good view of the mountains.

While I was on my walk there were tons of little parks along the way.  Some of the bushes and trees were a bit high to get a clear view, but it was still really beautiful.

I ♥ Cupcakes

6 Oct

For the fifth day of my trip we decided to have a lazy day.  We slept in and spent the day relaxing.  We ordered in a pizza and played a few hours of Guitar Hero.  Just like what we used to do back on PEI.   Since I don’t have any pictures for this day I thought it would be a great opportunity to show some cupcake photos.

The cupcakes from this shop are probably the best I have ever eaten.

Back Row: Caramella, Diva, Vanilla Milk Chocolate, Mint Chocolate Chip.

Front Row: Chocolate, Lemon Drop, Buttercup.

Here are just a few of the other things they had for sale in the store.  T-Shirts, Mugs, Gift Tags etc.

If I could right now I would eat every kind of those cupcakes! I brought a six pack home for my family, and they all loved them too.

Botanical Garden & MOA

5 Oct

On the fourth day of my Vancouver excursion my friend and I spent the day at the University of British Columbia Campus.  Our first stop was the Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research.  It was beautiful wandering all the paths throughout the gardens and the trees were enormous!

We decided to do the “Canopy Walk” at the gardens.  Little did we know how small the of an area we had to walk, with ropes to hold on to.  It was fun, but very high.

The second part of the gardens was filled with different plants and flowers.  Apples, pears, pumpkins, celery, tomatoes etc.

This was taken on the way to the Museum of Anthropology.  We got lost trying to Find the Tim Hortons on the campus, we finally found it and it was closed.  We ended up finding a place called The Niche.  At least I think that was the name…

These are what the Bride (Right) and Groom (Left) would were in a Fijian Wedding.

Another part of the museum was different ceramics from places around the globe through the centuries. The second image is actually a stove… I’m not sure how.

Heading over the bridge and back to the apartment. Actually I do believe we stopped for cupcakes… again.

Simon Fraser University

4 Oct

On my third day in Vancouver I followed my friend Bethany to a couple of her classes.  She is currently working on her Masters at Simon Fraser.  I sat in on two of her classes, Electromagnetic Theory and Advanced Quantum Mechanics.  Talk about way over my head!  She showed me around the campus, and I’m sure if I was left alone I would of gotten lost.

This photo is of the “Air Plane Museum” in the Simon Fraser University.  I thought this was pretty cool.

In the University they have a Periodic Table on the wall.  In all the cubes are things that relate to the different elements.

Once the classes were done the Physics Department had a BBQ and we ate some tasty foods.  To finish off the day we headed to Metrotown to do some shopping.  The bus ride from Simon Fraser was about an hour, but it was worth it.  By the end of the night my feet were soo sore.  More on my trip to come!

Vancouver Aquarium

3 Oct

My second full day in the city of Vancouver was definitely one of my favourites.  We spent most of the day at the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park.  I took over 250 photos in the four hours it took us to go through the aquarium.  These are just a few of the shots from that day.

Frogs from the “Frogs Forever” exhibit.

This was my friends favourite part of the aquarium, I’m sure she could of stayed in front of this tank all day.  The cutest thing about sea otters is that they hold hands while sleeping so they don’t drift apart.

Beluga Whale,  This was the first whale I have ever seen!

The Jelly Fish aquariums were one of my favourite spots in the aquarium.

I spent about twenty minutes in front of this tank photographing the clown fish, they are just so amazing.

This guy was HUGE!

The aquarium has over 70,000 animals such as frogs, jelly fish, beluga whales, dolphins, tropical fish, birds, butterflies, sea otters, spiders and sooo much more!

Downtown Vancouver

29 Sep

It has been awhile since I’ve done a post.  I was visiting a friend in Vancouver for two weeks.  I plan on doing a post for each day I was there.  Here is the first one!  These photos were from my first day in the city.  We spent the day walking the streets of downtown Vancouver.

Gateway to Historic Gastown, and the Vancouver lookout in the background.  The lookout is where the last two photos were taken.

This is the Steam Clock that is located in Historic Gastown.

We were at the waterfront close to Canada Place and there were lots of sea planes taking off and landing.

View from the Vancouver Lookout Day and Night shots of the same area.

These are just a few of my favourite photos from that day.  My friend and I started off the day eating crepes at Cafe Crepe, they were delicious.  Later that day we managed to find ourselves in a shop called Cupcakes (photos coming in another post).  They have the most amazing cupcakes ever!  We found ourselves back there two more times before I left.  My first day in Vancouver was a success.

Mugs

10 Sep

I was just having some fun in the studio the other day.  So here are some shots of a mug I got awhile back.  The backgrounds are just some fabric pieces I had left over from doing my booth display at the Harvest Festival.  I love photographing still life, and making it fun and colorful.
